Speaker Biographies
Thomas H. Shawker, M.D. Thomas H. Shawker, M.D., is chief of the ultrasound section in the Imaging Sciences Program at the National Institutes of Health, a professor of radiology at the United Services University, and a fellow of the American College of Radiology. He is chairman of the National Genealogical Society’s Family Health and Heredity Committee and active in the Prince George’s County Genealogical Society. He is the author or coauthor of over two hundred scientific publications, including Unlocking Your Genetic History: A Step by Step Guide to Discovering Your Family's Medical and Genetic Heritage.
Patricia O. Shawker Patricia O. Shawker, CG, has served as the Assistant Director of the National Institute on Genealogical Research at the National Archives since 2002 and became Director in October 2007. Her interests are Maryland genealogy and research at the National Archives.
Bennett Greenspan Bennett Greenspan is founder and president of Family Tree DNA. An entrepreneur and life-long genealogy enthusiast, Greenspan founded Family Tree DNA in 1999, turning a hobby into a full-time vocation. A pioneer in DNA testing for genealogy, his company is the world leader in the genetic genealogy field and has continued to develop the science that enables genealogists around the world to advance their family research. With more than 80,000 individuals tested, Family Tree DNA has the largest database of its kind in the world.
Thomas S. Howland Thomas S. Howland is a member of the Board of Directors of The Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania and a project administrator for ten Family Tree DNA projects including Howland, Throckmorton, Smalley, Halsall, and Pigot. He has arranged testing in the US, Canada, England, Wales, Australia and New Zealand. Also he has co-managed a Lee DNA project which includes the “Lees of Virginia.” Tom, now retired, was a stock broker with Morgan Stanley.
Michael S. Ramage, J.D., CG Michael S. Ramage, J.D., CG, has been an avid genealogist for over 20 years and a professional genealogist for ten years. He is the Certifying Genealogist for 3 lineage societies (The Colonial Society of Pennsylvania; Society of Colonial Wars (PA.); and The Pennsylvania Society of Sons of the Revolution). He has qualified as an expert witness in missing and unknown heir probate cases. Member of APG, NGS, SAR, GSP, HSP, NEHGS and local societies. Certified Genealogist and certificate in NGS' AG:ABC. Published article: "Missing and Unknown Estate Heir Law Practice and Procedure," The Pennsylvania Bar Association Quarterly, Volume LXXVI, No. 3 (July 2005): 125.
