Land and Property Records (land grants, patents, deeds, property tax lists/rolls, etc.):

The City of Philadelphia’s Department of Records has a website which contains images of the Philadelphia County deed book indices from 1683 up to the 1950s. The website also has the old deed registry office index sheets abstracting property ownership for individual lots in the city from roughly 1860 to 1950. The only problem with using the latter source is that the researcher needs to know the plan and plot number of the property he or she is interested in. Once a researcher knows the plan and/or plot number it is easy to use the on-line resource. In the end this makes looking up deeds a little easier, because one can prepare for a research trip by getting the deed citations before going to the City Archives or HSP.
