1. Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania: Resources, News & Announcements:

Philadelphia on the Internet, Thursday, 15 June 2006 — 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. — GSP Research Room. Susan Koelble, CG, will present an overview of the major Internet sources for Philadelphia genealogy research. Her live presentation will demonstrate websites such as the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and Philadelphia City Archives, plus several lesser-known sites she has discovered and uses in her research plans. To help you plan your research trips, this session will acquaint you with the unique sources available for Philadelphia records.

  Ethnic Genealogy:

Joseph Barker’s “Negro Ledger Book” 1808-1811. Joseph Barker was a general merchant whose store and home was located at Barkers Landing on the St. Jones River in Murderkill Hundred, Delaware. Titled by Barker as his “Negro Ledger A”, the volume contains entries for purchases made by his African-American customers. Each entry notes the name of customer, date of purchase, items purchased, cost for each item, date and amount paid, and how paid. Often bills were paid with grain, other items, or labor.

SiteFinder Online is a free web-based version of The Gold Bug's SiteFinder U.S. place name database. SiteFinder Online lets you search for towns, cemeteries, schools, courthouses (and more) and plot them onto Google Maps, where you can zoom in & out or overlay the SiteFinder locations onto satellite images of areas you are studying.
