2. Genealogical Resources (by type):
Cemetery/Funeral Director Records:
New Resource at the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania:
Helverson Funeral Home records.
The GSP volunteers have indexed our collection of fifteen volumes of Helverson Funeral Records. These records cover burials in Philadelphia from 1841 to 1900. Each volume is a photocopy of an original ledger and has an every name index. These volumes also include cemetery lot books and account books with their own indexes. This set of indexes is now available in our research room.
Cumberland County Cemeteries. ($) The Genealogy Club of the Harrisburg Area YMCA, West Shore Branch, has
compiled nine books of cemetery transcriptions encompassing almost all
of the eastern end of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania (just across the
Susquehanna River from Harrisburg).

Immigration Records (alien registration, naturalization, ship passenger lists, etc.):
Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society:
NATURALIZATION PAPERS.
There are 2,781 names listed in the Columbia County Naturalization Records Name Index Database #2. They are searchable by using the applicant’s surname. They cover two time periods: 1837 to 1906 and 1930 to 1956. Within these records, Certificate of Arrival, Declaration of Intention to Become a Citizen, and Petition for Citizenship, there are numerous items which provide information about the individual seeking citizenship. Depending on which records are used, one may find the following information: name, age, place of birth, date of birth, name of spouse, names of children, port of entry, date of entry, name of ship, last residence before emigrating, residence in Columbia County, occupation, physical description (sometimes a photo), and date of naturalization. It is important to remember that the amount of information will vary depending on the specific record and the time period. Records in the period 1930 to 1956 have far more information than the early period of 1837 to 1906.

The Erie County Public Library, Erie, has compiled
a paper obituary index for Erie County, Pennsylvania, that covers the period from 1822 to the present. The online version of this index currently covers 1960 through 2005. The index contains the last name and first name of the deceased, including nicknames and titles, and the date that the obituary appeared in the newspaper. The index is organized alphabetically by year, which you can browse year by year.

Easton Area Public Library, Easton, has obituary indexes covering the period from 1920 through 2005. The obituaries were abstracted from the Easton Express/Express Times newspaper. The Obituary Index files are large and may take a while to download. The files are organized alphabetically by last name. Use the Find function to search the indexes. The data fields in the index include last name, first name, date on which the obituary appeared in the newspaper, and the page number.
